As I was reading the Dialogue Magazine (Magazine of DePaul University College of Law) tonight, I was stunned to read of Uvaldo's passing. Through nearly 4 years of law school Uvaldo was a steady presence and a good friend. After beginning to work in a firm I had occasion to work with Uvaldo when I was part of a team representing State Farm in national litigation. Though I'm learning of his passing months after the fact, I want to assure his family of my prayers for him and for them. Uvaldo's spirit will be greatly missed. I am so sorry for your loss - and for the loss all of us feel who knew him and greatly appreciated his many gifts.

My sincerest condolences to the Herrera Family. I met Uvaldo in Mexico City in 2005, while participating in a seminary. What an honor to have met such a fine gentle man always so calm and collected. We quickly became friends (who wouldn't want to be Uvaldo's friend?)and I although I never met the family, he always spoke so proudly of his parents, his brothers and sisters, and especially his wife Tasha, his lovely daughter Isabela (with one "l" he always corrected), and his sons Brent and Bree. May he rest in peace knowing what a difference he made in so many lives through his countless contributions. I will miss him dearly.

Dear Tasha,
I was very saddened to have learned of Uvaldo's passing. It occurred while I was out of country, so I apologize that I was not able to attend his service. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I delivered some remarks during our Gala dinner at our most recent HNBA Annual Convention where we honored Uvaldo's memory and his service to the HNBA, including a moment of silence in his honor. The HNBA family mourns with you.
Sincerely,
Roman D. Hernandez

We do not weep for saints when they leave us, for we know where they are going. Rather, we weep for ourselves having to find a way to carry on without them. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Tasha, Brent, Bree and Isabella.

My condolences to the Herrera family. I knew Uvaldo for nearly a decade and he was ever the gentleman. He will be greatly missed, though the Uvaldo Herrera Moot Court Competition is a wonderful honor to his memory. David Arroyo

Dear Tasha, Isabella, Brent and Bree,
I was sadden to hear of the passing of your husband and father. I met Uvaldo in the 1990s as we served together on the HNBA Board of Governors. We quickly became friends. Tasha, I think we met once during an HNBA annual or mid-year convention. Uvaldo and I often talked about about our children -- Isabella and my oldest girl, Hannah-Marie, are about the same age -- their learning to walk, talk, and of fatherhood. We would often share pictures of our families. We talked about our families in Mexico.
Uvaldo was a key person in my becoming president of the HNBA in 2003-2004. It was people like Uvaldo that my stewardship and service to the HNBA was a success.
I know you know it, not only in your hearts but in truth and life, that Uvaldo was a proud father and husband. I am sadden at the loss of my friend and colleague. I pray for all of you and Uvaldo.
Warmest regards,
Carlos

I just want to say that it was a pleasure working with Uvaldo all last year while he was HNBA Counsel and I came on board as Executive Director. He was an example of an attorney and person to me, I only wish I could have had the privilege of his camaraderie and support longer. He was a great colleague and one of those few people that at first impression you really want to have as a friend because of their evidently exceptionally positive and good heart. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Tasha,
I only knew Uvaldo for a short while, but even in those infrequent encounters I was able to determine that you had one unique person at your side and that the kids had a great father.
May God bless you and La familia and keep you all strong in the blessings that Uvaldo left with all of the HNBA family.
With all due respect to an outstanding person whom I will miss,
Lupe Salinas, professor of law, Texas Southern University, Houston, Tx
