Overview:

The Legislative Day program furthers the HNBA policy agenda before Congress and executive branch officials through direct grassroots advocacy by our members. It also educates HNBA members from around the country about public policy issues and the federal legislative process. The 2010 advocacy topics will be: Comprehensive Immigration Reform and Increased Compensation and Diversity among the Federal Judiciary.

The Co-Chairs, Liz Lopez and Alejandra Castillo, expect to start the 2010 Legislative Day with a Welcome Reception on May 11, 2010. On May 12th, a breakfast will be held at the Capitol followed by a policy briefing. During the day, participants will meet with Members of both the House and Senate and gather in the evening for the Capital Awards presentation. This year’s Capital Award Recipients will be announced in early 2010. Prior award recipients include Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Former Sen. Ken Salazar (D-CO), Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL), Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-12), Rep. Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Rep. Linda Sanchez (CA-39), Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-18) and Robert Raben (Founder, The Raben Group). On May 13th, participants will attend a briefing by senior level administration officials at the White House (to be confirmed). All components of the event are free to HNBA members, who advocate on May 12th on behalf of the HNBA.
