HNBA Makes History With Its Inaugural Corporate Counsel Conference & 15th Annual National Moot Court Competition
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) will make history this week. It will hold its first-ever Corporate Counsel Conference on March 4-6, 2010 in San Diego, California.
“Never before has the HNBA partnered with Corporate America on a program such as this. The HNBA’s 2010 Corporate Counsel Conference is a rare opportunity to showcase talented Hispanic lawyers to the in-house legal departments of major corporations as HNBA members present cutting-edge legal education courses to conference attendees. We are very pleased with the quality of the program that we created. In fact, the overwhelming interest of both corporate legal departments and HNBA members resulted in greater than anticipated registrations, so much so, that we had to change conference rooms at the hotel in order to accommodate everyone,” said Román D. Hernández, HNBA National President. “It is our sincere hope that business relationships develop between the in-house attorneys who attend and HNBA members as a result of this forum, created with in-house counsel in mind,” concluded Hernández.
The Conference will feature at least 10 (ten) General Counsel as speakers throughout the event, and will provide HNBA members invaluable networking opportunities with in-house counsel from corporations such as Nike; DuPont; Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.; Wells Fargo; Target Corporation; Verizon; AT&T; Microsoft Corporation; Sony Electronics; Sempra Energy; Science Applications International Corporation; CareFusion; and Synopsys, Inc. among others.
The event, co-hosted by the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association, has the added bonus of happening in tandem with the HNBA’s 15th Annual Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition. Laws students comprised of teams from 32 of the top law schools in the nation annually compete in the competition. The HNBA’s Judicial Council, comprised of prominent Hispanic judges from around the country, will serve as judges for this competition, including Chief Justice Paul De Muniz (Oregon Supreme Court); Justice David Medina (Supreme Court of Texas); Judge Gilbert Román (Colorado Court of Appeals); Chief Judge Irma Gonzalez (Chief Judge, U.S. Dist. Court for the Southern Dist. of California); and Justice Charles Z. Smith (Ret.) (Washington Supreme Court). The HNBA will present its moot court awards during its Gala Dinner on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter. The HNBA will also recognize the recipients of the “2010 HNBA Top Lawyers Under Forty” awards at the closing Gala Dinner.
