HNBA TO HOST 2012 CAPITAL AWARDS DINNER AS PART OF ADVOCACY SUMMIT, HONORS REP. CHARLIE GONZALEZ FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE

Congressman Charlie Gonzalez (TX-20), a Leader in Congress and the Legal Community, Receives 2012 Capital Award

WASHINGTON, DC – In this 40th anniversary year, members of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) from across the country will travel to the nation’s capital to participate in the 2012 Advocacy Summit and Legislative Day. The Advocacy Summit will take place May 8th – 10th. Legislative Day will conclude with the 2012 Capital Awards Dinner on Wednesday, May 9th.

The full three-day event is focused on the HNBA’s legislative and policy priorities of: 1) preserving access to legal services for low-income individuals; 2) addressing judicial emergencies and promoting diversity on the federal bench; and 3) supporting DREAM Act legislation that includes a path to U.S. citizenship and access to financial aid. Other legislative priorities include the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act and the creation of the National Museum of the American Latino. The Advocacy Summit will also feature a White House Briefing with senior administration officials on Thursday.

The 2012 HNBA Legislative Day ends in the 2012 Capital Awards Dinner, an event recognizing key legislative initiatives and members of Congress who redefine the meaning of excellence through their leadership and commitment to their communities. This year the HNBA will present the Capital Award to Representative Charlie Gonzalez (TX-20). The complete Advocacy Summit agenda is available on www.hnba.com.
