HNBA Announces 2010 Capital Awards Recipients

Washington, D.C. – The HNBA announced today that it will recognize Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Congressman Luis V. Gutierrez (IL-4) as its 2010 Capital Awards Recipients.  The HNBA will hold its Legislative Day and Capital Awards Dinner on May 12, 2010 in Washington, DC.  Román D. Hernández, HNBA National President, noted, “These Congressional leaders were selected due to their exemplary leadership on a series of legislative priorities of utmost importance to the Hispanic community, such as Comprehensive Immigration Reform.  Senator Schumer, Senator Graham and Congressman Gutierrez have also demonstrated leadership and knowledge as members of the Senate and House Committee on the Judiciary. The HNBA recognizes the support that Senators Schumer and Graham have shown throughout the confirmation process of eminently qualified nominees.”

As part of its Legislative Day, the HNBA provides its members with a unique opportunity to articulate the HNBA’s legislative priorities before Members of Congress. This year, the HNBA advocacy topics include Comprehensive Immigration Reform, and Increased Compensation and Diversity among the Federal Judiciary. Liz Lopez, HNBA Vice President of External Affairs stated, “The HNBA and its members are uniquely positioned to advocate effectively on key legislative issues that will have a direct impact on all individuals living in the United States. Legislative Day gives our members a formal opportunity to engage in such advocacy.”
