Gabriel Sandoval is Deputy Legal Counsel to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. In this capacity, Mr. Sandoval assists the Counsel in providing advice to the Mayor on a broad range of local, state, federal, and international legal and policy issues.

Mr. Sandoval also serves as the lead on the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs and related initiatives focused on immigrant integration, naturalization acquisition, and public policy development. Other responsibilities include serving as the Mayor’s liaison to the Human Relations Commission, overseeing Census 2010 planning and related issues, and managing outside conflict counsel retained to represent the city in legal matters.

Mr. Sandoval has been appointed to governmental and non-governmental boards and commissions, including the California State Bar Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation, the Los Angeles County Commission for Public Social Services, the Advisory Board for the Loyola Law School Center for Conflict Resolution, and the Board of Trustees for Partnerships to Uplift Communities, a non-profit chater school management organization. He received his undergraduate degree in political science with departmental honors from Stanford University in 1993 and his law degree from Columbia University School of Law in 1998 where he received a human rights fellowship and served as a submissions and staff editor for the Columbia Human Rights Law Review.

Mr. Sandoval is a 2007 recipient of an American Marshall Memorial Fellowship of the German Marshall Fund of the United States.
