FIU Announces Mentor/Mentee Matches

Nov. 4 | Coral Gables, FL – Florida International University Law School’s Hispanic Law Student Association (HLSA) and the HNBA hosted a reception to announce this school year’s mentor/ mentee matches on November 4th. HLSA and the HNBA had hosted a speed-mentoring event the previous month, during which students and potential mentors had the opportunity to meet and get to know one another. “After the initial reception mentees choose  their preferred mentor, the latter choose the students they would like to mentor and  the matches are made in a manner reminiscent of fraternity rush,” said HNBA Region VIII President Teresita Chavez Pedrosa. “It works very well, because it’s the natural affinities between people that determine the mentor/ mentee pairings.” Mentors and mentees will now meet independently throughout the school year, and will all come together again for an appreciation reception in May of 2012. The HLSA/HNBA Mentoring Program at FIU is a highly successful program, which so far this year has resulted in jobs for two law student participants.
