ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL – SECURITIES LITIGATION Job #33762

 JOB INFORMATION

Responsibilities include providing legal advice on issues related to Fannie Mae’s portfolio of private label securities and single-family business, managing actual and potential litigation, interacting with regulatory agencies, negotiating with counterparties, coordinating discovery in litigated matters (including electronic discovery), and responding to government inquiries.  Successful candidates must be able to operate with considerable independence in consulting, advising, and representing the company on a variety of highly complex legal matters.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supervise and actively direct outside counsel matters involving litigation and dispute resolution.
  • Provide legal advice to business clients related Fannie Mae’s rights in connection with private label securities
  • Provide legal advice and counsel to business clients related to disputes involving Fannie Mae’s single-family business
  • Set strategy for a variety of matters involving actual and potential litigation
  • Interact with regulatory agencies on a regular basis
  • Research important legal issues for senior management
  • Manage all aspects of discovery, including responding to discovery requests and subpoenas
  • Provide legal advice and service to business units in connection actual or potential disputes
  • Work closely with business units and outside counsel to help business units meet goals and resolve matters
  • Counsel internal clients regarding the importance of legal developments on their business operations

EDUCATION

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent required

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

  • 8+ years of related experience

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Detailed knowledge of mortgage backed securities and the securitization process
  • Knowledge of the mortgage market
  • Prior experience representing corporate clients in litigation and/or government investigations
  • Bankruptcy experience a plus
  • Experience managing the civil discovery process
  • Experience advising corporate or government clients on important legal issues
  • Considerable experience negotiating settlement agreements
