The HNBA Highlights that Legal Challenges Against Arizona’s Immigration Law Have Largely Been Successful
Washington, DC–Yesterday, the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) joined millions of Americans and other national organizations in celebrating the successful legal challenges to the most repugnant portions of Arizona’s SB 1070. In a ruling issued July 28, 2010, The United States District Court for the District of Arizona granted a preliminary injunction as to several key sections of SB 1070, with a trial on the merits still part of the pending litigation to overturn what is likely an unconstitutional piece of anti-immigrant legislation.

The Hispanic National Bar Association and Association of Corporate Counsel Partner on Groundbreaking Executive Leadership Program for Latina Lawyers
July 27, 2010 – In an unprecedented partnership, the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) are joining forces to design and implement a groundbreaking initiative for Latina lawyers in the private sector. The HNBA-ACC Latina Executive Leadership Program will involve an estimated 50 Latina HNBA members from the private sector and several chief legal officers who will collaborate on financial and case management education and networking opportunities. The overarching goal of the program is to equip Latina lawyers with innovative client service and case management skills necessary to better-align their practice with the emerging value-based approach that clients are adopting to buy legal services in an increasingly competitive global business environment.

THE HISPANIC NATIONAL BAR ASSOCIATION COMMENDS PRESIDENT OBAMA’S NOMINATION OF JUDGE MARCO HERNANDEZ AND JUDGE DIANA SALDAÑA
Washington, DC – The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) applauds President Barack H. Obama’s decision to nominate Judge Marco Hernandez to the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, and Judge Diana Saldaña to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Both of these nominees have stellar qualifications as well as a proven record of public service. The HNBA urges the U.S. Senate to confirm them expeditiously.

The HNBA Commends the U.S. Department of Justice for Challenging Arizona’s SB 1070 in Court
July 7, 2010 – The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA), commends the U.S. Department of Justice for taking legal action against Arizona’s SB 1070. “We are pleased to see our federal government taking a position on this issue, and to make it clear to all states, municipalities, counties, and parishes, etc., that immigration is strictly a federal issue,” said HNBA National President Román D. Hernández.

U.S. Solicitor General, Elena Kagan, Receives the Endorsement of the HNBA to Serve as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court
July 1, 2010 – Today the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) announced its support of the appointment of U.S. Solicitor General Elena Kagan to serve as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Through its judicial due diligence review process, the HNBA has endorsed Solicitor Kagan after careful consideration of her background and qualifications in the context of the requirements of the position she seeks.
