May 21, 2010 – The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) commends President Barack H. Obama’s decision to nominate The Honorable Edward J. Davila to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The Northern District of California includes the cities of San Francisco, Oakland and San José with a population of more than 7.3 million people, 26 percent of whom are Latino. If confirmed, Judge Davila will be the only Latino judge serving in the Northern District.

May 11, 2010 – The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) is honored to host the Honorable Ben Ray Luján (NM-3) during its Welcome Reception for the 2010 HNBA Legislative Day. HNBA members from across the country will convene in Washington, D.C. to address issues with Members of Congress in both the House and Senate that include an HNBA model for an earned and secure path to citizenship – a key component of comprehensive immigration reform legislation – and greater diversity in the federal judiciary.
May 10, 2010 – The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) applauds President Barack H. Obama on nominating Solicitor General Elena Kagan as a candidate to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court of the United States left by Justice John Paul Stevens. “President Obama has nominated an attorney renowned for her brilliance, intellectual rigor, integrity and capacity to build consensus. If confirmed, she would also enhance the diversity of the High Court because she would be the only sitting Justice to come from outside the judiciary,” said Román D. Hernández, HNBA National President. As HNBA has done for past Supreme Court nominees, including Chief Justice Roberts, Associate Justices Kennedy, Breyer, Ginsburg and Sotomayor, and retired Associate Justice Souter, we will conduct a thorough review of the candidate’s credentials and record before voting on whether to endorse Solicitor General Kagan for confirmation.
May 7, 2010 – Following the Hispanic National Bar Association’s (“HNBA”) identification of several grave constitutional issues present within Arizona Senate Bill 1070 (“SB 1070”), and in the wake of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer’s decision to sign SB 1070 into law, HNBA joins other national Latino organizations that call upon organizations and individuals to take five major steps to protest the inherent injustice that this law will perpetrate until it is repealed.
May 5, 2010 – The Hispanic National Bar Association (“HNBA”), the national voice of the Hispanic legal community, announces the creation of The HNBA Legal Education Fund (“the Fund”), a nonprofit foundation that will support the educational and charitable mission of the HNBA. The Fund’s creation is a significant milestone for the HNBA because it is the only foundation that is dedicated to assisting the HNBA with accomplishing its charitable and educational mission.
