October 19, 2009–The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) announced this week that it has selected Zuraya Tapia-Alfaro as its new Executive Director and hosted a celebration in her honor at the offices of Sidley Austin LLP in Washington, D.C. She will be based in Washington, D.C. where the organization is headquartered. As the HNBA’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Administrator, Ms. Tapia-Alfaro will direct the day-to-day operations, supervise staff, and support the HNBA Board of Governors in the development and execution of programs and policies.

Wednesday 20, 2009–The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) will participate in a press conference on Capitol Hill to oppose a proposed amendment by U.S. Senators David Vitter (R – LA) and Robert Bennett (R – UT) that would require a question about the citizenship and immigration status of every American. This amendment seeks to undermine efforts for an accurate Census 2010, and discourage census participation in minority communities.
